Due to unfair circumstances surrounding Russian football officials and players involved in the World Cup, the Ballon d’Or award – which is given to the best player in the world – will not be given this year.
While there are many other deserving nominees, this decision leaves a void that is sure to be felt by many. The Ballon d’Or is an award that has been given out multiple times, and while it may not have been given this year, it will undoubtedly be given again in the future.
