There are a number of nominees for this year’s award, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar. However, it looks as though only one player will be given the trophy – Barcelona forward Neymar. This has caused uproar amongst some who feel that he should have been given the award based on his performances this season.
There are also allegations that Neymar received preferential treatment during the voting process. This is something which FIFA denies, but which could still lead to questions being asked about how fair the process was.
